The travelTim is an alarm clock capable of waking a deaf person or someone suffering from hearing loss.
Now available in green or pink!
The travelTim is battery operated and can be set to a vibration, audible alarm or both together. This clock also incorporates an optional bright white LED light that will also visually alert you that the alarm is sounding/vibrating and has a socket to allow you to plug in an external vibrator if required (purchased separately - see associated items on right).
The whole clock is placed under your pillow and it is supplied with a clip and cord to allow you to secure it in place. There is also a protection panel to prevent accidentally activating any of the buttons. Alternatively it can be used on the bedside table, with an external vibrator plugged in (purchased separately).
In the opinion of our evaluation panel, this travel alarm clock has reasonable vibration (although not quite as good as the Sonic Shaker) and an adequate volume. The buttons are clear and brightly coloured, making it good for those with visual impairment. The display is also nice and clear.
Colour: black with lime green or pink buttons
Supplied with:
The AAA battery powers the clock and lasts quite a long time. The AA batteries power the vibrator and need to be replaced more often.
Size: 95 x 70 x 30mm
Weight: 130g excl batteries.

This is a repackaged, and improved, version of the now discontinued ShakeAwake. I liked it so much that I have bought a second one in case they discontinue this one. The alarm is very powerful and the flashing light a great improvement. It has the added advantage that it makes it easy to find the stop button which is just below the light. Although I am not quite deaf enough to need the vibrator, when I tested it, it was like an earthquake! The display is clear and the back light the best I have met. My only criticism is that it is hard to see the slider settings at the back but I solved this by putting a spot of white paint on the slider knobs so that the show up. For a travel alarm clock to wake the deaf, this is the best I have found. (Administrator note - the TravelTim is not made by the same people who made the ShakeAwake and is not linked in any way, but they are very similar products.)

I bought this because my "standard" alarm clock did not always wake me up. I was a bit concerned about how the vibration would work: would it be too violent so I woke up with a start, or would it be too gentle so I slept through it? I'm happy to say, it is "just right". I place it slightly to one side under the pillow so that it is not directly under my ear when it goes off, and I'm woken up by a gentle vibration and a low grunting sound. I do not normally use the light-and-sound option, as I don't need it. I have only given it four stars because I find the sliding buttons on the back are a bit too small, and quite stiff to move, though the stiffness might improve with time. There is a big button on the front to turn the alarm off, though if you have selected "snooze", but are awake enough to get up after the first vibrate, you have to fumble around to find the little slider button on the back, and then move the slider button to stop the alarm going off again. The instructions are clear, and it is straightforward to set the time etc. If I could give it four-and-a-half stars, I would.

Anyone like me who is not deaf but can't stand noise of ordinary alarm clocks might find it preferable to use this under pillow on vibrating setting. A much gentler way to wake up.

I have tried it out and it is brilliant as my other alarm clock is broken so I bought this new one. It flashes and vibrates very strongly. Definitely recommnded. Thank you!

Great little clock! I decided to get this as I kept missing my iPhone alarm (not loud enough) and I wanted something that wouldn’t wake the neighbours! The vibrate is very strong but my husband assures me that it isn’t really loud either (no loud buzzing). Very pleased :)

This is an excellent little alarm ( also for travelling). It is compact and the vibration is strong enough to waken a very deaf heavy sleeper. The top combination of three functions ensures I wake. This is the best of five alarms I've tried to date. The casing ensures you don't move buttons by accident but it can also be used to sit the alarm on a table to use sound or strobe alone.
